What is the role of media?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 14, 2007:
"Give the people what they want"
Media is there to entertain and inform- beyond that, the public feeds often feeds the negative aspects of the media. How many people watch Extra over the McNeil Lehrer report?! Or Dancing with the Stars vs. Nova (is that still on?!). TMZ would not exist if not for the public's thrist for celeb news
There are powerful stories still being told- the effects of climate change for instance- and people just aren't motivated to take action from them. The media had a huge effect on the Vietnam war, 60 minutes used to do exposes and people would write to their elected officials. That just isn't happening anymore.
News is cheap both in content and in creation which is why we now have
"info-tainment. "
But "they" wouldn't be making it if "we" weren't watching it.
But there are alternatives: Veria, Lime Network are both cable channels with more positive content. and our beloved Zaadz too!

“But “they” wouldn't be making it if “we” weren't watching it.”
This is so true! Those that believe the media is bad should find
the OFF button on their tellies. Also when the news is reporting something
that we don't want such as War by tuning in to watch it people are telling the Universe
give us more of that.
“Give the people what they want”
It's one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time. Awhile back someone mentioned how T.V.'s actually program people. I believe it especially if they don't see
the truth in the fact that we tell the media what to show everyday.
Thanks for your wise insight! :-)
You guys are so right!
I was heartened, in a preverse sort of way, to discover that it wasn’t only in the US that this goes on. It’s a world wide issue.
I like to listen to the news on the radio rather that get it from television. It’s still slanted one way or another, but less embellished without the visuals. I’ll listen to the BBC just to get a different slant but the fare on British TV is little better than our own. The same seems true in Japan and other countries as well.
I’m very careful about what I let into my head!

You're correct about the visuals stirring the emotions up even more.
Some may think it's harmless to watch T.V. or movies that do this to
extremes, but it really can have a big impact on your thinking. I'm sure
many of us have realized by now that our thoughts create our reality.
What you watch really does affect your perception of the world. It doesn't
even matter if you're watching something and you know it's quote not real.
Your senses still react the same way as if what you're watching is really
happening because in essense it is.
You got it!
The subconscious mind is just like the mind of a very young child. Actual reality makes no difference to it.
one of my favorite doctors, andrew weil (or is is Wayne Dyer?!), recommends taking a “news fast”- if anything major happens: you’ll hear about it.
Otherwise, turn off all the NOISE
it does you good!
